Abstract:
This presentation investigates the phenomenon of presenteeism, the act of working while ill, in its evolving forms. We analyzed its manifestation within an ageing on-site workforce, detailing how supervisory support, coworker dynamics, and workplace discrimination impact productivity loss by disrupting work-life balance. Subsequently, we turn to the modern phenomenon of "workahomeism," demonstrating how it traps employees in a cycle of resource depletion across professional and domestic spheres. By integrating findings from both remote and on-site, this talk offers evidence-based strategies for long-term managerial intervention and prompts a crucial debate: under what circumstances, if any, should sick employees be encouraged to work?
