"One of the most memorable moments in my academic journey occurred on an ordinary yet profoundly significant afternoon during my sophomore year. That day, I happened to come across a post on the FBM's official WeChat account about an outstanding senior who had been admitted to a world-renowned university for further studies. In that instant, I was deeply moved—realizing that someone from the same major and the same campus could, through relentless effort and clear goals, reach such broad horizons. The power of that role model was like a beam of light, illuminating what had been a rather directionless and uneventful university life for me. At the time, my GPA was only 2.77 in my freshman year. Back then, I hadn't truly focused on my studies, often distracted by the vibrant array of university activities. But that moment awakened a dormant drive within me. From then on, I no longer allowed myself to slack off. Instead, I pursued my dreams with determination and perseverance, eventually achieving a GPA of 3.81 in my junior year. This experience taught me that turning points in life often begin with a single spark of inspiration.

Among my professional courses, the most challenging one was undoubtedly 'Database Management' during my sophomore year. This MySQL-based course was also my first encounter with coding in university. For the first few weeks, I sat in the classroom utterly bewildered, listening to the teacher explain unfamiliar terms and logic as if trapped in an indecipherable cipher game. Seeing the growing gap between myself and the course, I realized that if I didn't adjust quickly, achieving a desirable grade would be out of reach. So, I took the initiative: previewing materials before each class, carefully marking unclear points in the slides, and seeking clarification from the teacher during consulting hours. In my spare time, I also used platforms like Bilibili for self-study and reinforcement. Bit by bit, I finally cleared the fog, gradually building logical thinking and technical foundations, and ultimately achieved the grade I aimed for in this course. This experience not only helped me overcome an academic bottleneck but also made me realize that perseverance and initiative are key to growth."

"Among the professional courses, I found Business Systems Design and Analysis to be the most challenging. The course content involved system design and complex theoretical knowledge, requiring strong logical thinking and technical understanding. Initially, I often struggled, but aside from consulting the teacher, I utilized AI tools to aid comprehension and supplemented my learning with relevant courses on platforms like Coursera. Gradually, I figured things out, which also enhanced my problem-solving and self-learning abilities.

Over the four years of university, I believe my greatest gains have been significant improvements in multitasking and presentation skills. While participating in student union work and various campus activities, I often had to balance academics, event organization, and communication between departments. This honed my ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and allocate time effectively. Furthermore, the frequent presentation training in BNBU’s curriculum greatly improved my English expression and presentation techniques, boosting my confidence in delivering presentations and allowing me to express ideas more comfortably in public settings. I believe these skills will play an important role in my postgraduate studies and future career."

"What left the deepest impression on me was during the program orientation when Dr. Don (Junyi CHAI) told us, 'EBIS is a major born for the future.' Among the many orientation sessions, besides informing us about future prospects and the curriculum, Dr.CHAI also instilled in us a sense of expectation for the industry. This laid a foundation of dedication and eagerness for my subsequent studies. Whether I choose a research path or enter the workforce in the future, I believe I will never forget the moment I felt a resonance with this discipline. Later courses, such as comparing product prices across different platforms, understanding the processes of live-stream e-commerce, or learning about the interaction and collaboration among different parts of the supply chain, helped me better understand the reasons behind this industry's growth and expansion. I later undertook internships in live-stream e-commerce, and I increasingly felt that this industry still has a long way to go—perhaps this is exactly why those of us who follow need to strive for it.

Over the past four years, I have met many enthusiastic and knowledgeable teachers and made like-minded friends. BNBU offers a variety of colorful club activities, like color runs or charity sales, as well as some less familiar but extremely helpful activities such as Book Corner or one-on-one consultations. I encourage everyone to explore these gradually during your four years—utilizing the resources provided by the university will make your academic life more fulfilling and effective. Through the Peer Mentor Program, I met my junior students, and we still keep in touch and share updates. At Book Corner, I met the lovely teacher Tony and many friends who love reading. The weekly reading sharing sessions motivated me to maintain my reading habit and absorb different perspectives and knowledge through conversations. Additionally, during the summer internship organized by the university, the careful guidance from three teachers and the mutual support among fellow interns allowed me to gain something far more valuable than just work experience. Try more, make more friends, and seek more opportunities—this is what I have adhered to throughout my four years and would like to share with you all."

"My greatest gain at BNBU has been every single person who was willing to share the journey with me.

First, there is the big family of street dance—BNBU CREW. During my year as captain, I had to juggle numerous academic, internship, and interpersonal responsibilities. My teammates were incredibly understanding, and together we strived to make every event a success. In my junior and senior years, it was the BNBU CREW family that gave me the courage and motivation to compete and achieve our goals on stage. While preparing for the NIKE University Street Dance League, I am especially grateful to my team: Ziqi WANG (22EBIS), Yunlong HE (21PRA), and Kaixin LIN (21PRA). Thanks to our three months of hard work and dedication, we won the runner-up title at the Guangzhou division and advanced to the national finals in Chengdu representing the Guangdong region.

Next are the teachers I encountered: In my sophomore year, I met Dr. Uche in the Business Ethics course—a teacher who actively engaged with students and was full of passion for teaching. Every class made me want to sit in the front row for more opportunities to interact with him. During dance team rehearsals, Dr. Uche would often greet us and ask about our recent activities. In my junior year, I met Tyler in the Speaking and Listening course, another incredibly enthusiastic teacher. The course challenged our English expression skills, and Tyler would join our discussions, offering perspectives from different angles, which made our conversations more thought-provoking."

"The liberal arts education philosophy of BNBU has left a profound mark on me. Here, I learned to think across disciplines and explore the boundaries of knowledge without constraints. From the interdisciplinary curriculum to open discussion platforms, I deeply realized the infinite possibilities of knowledge. BNBU brought about significant personal growth for me. Here, I was no longer a student confined by traditional academic frameworks but rather an independent thinker and a self-driven learner. By participating in various student organizations and international exchange programs, students can grow into confident individuals unafraid of challenges. BNBU’s educational philosophy taught me to think independently and boldly pursue my true aspirations.

I believe BNBU has given me a more unique competitive edge. Here, I not only acquired solid professional knowledge but also developed a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary perspective and way of thinking. This global educational background enables me to better adapt to and tackle challenges across different cultures and fields, making me a strong contender on the international stage in the future.

The curriculum of EBIS programme is closely aligned with contemporary needs, integrating core theories and practices in e-commerce and information systems management. Through courses such as database languages, big data analytics, and information systems design and management, I gained in-depth understanding of business models in the internet era and the application of information technology, laying a solid foundation for my future development in this field."

“The e-Business Management and Information Systems (EBIS) programme is an interdisciplinary field that blends management and engineering. This business-technology crossover in the curriculum helps cultivate versatile talents with well-rounded development. It taught me how to analyze data, integrate business knowledge, develop product or corporate strategies based on company needs, and assist enterprises in building and improving information systems during digital transformation. I can confidently say that the EBIS courses have been immensely beneficial to me.

The four-year curriculum at BNBU not only honed my fluency in English and collaboration skills but also fostered my critical thinking and clear expression abilities. The Whole Person Education courses guided me in personal development, the internalization of traditional cultural excellence, and attention to environmental sustainability. The inclusive academic atmosphere encouraged me to embrace trial and error and communication, gradually clarifying my thoughts through reflection and steadily advancing toward my goals.”

"I found my time at BNBU to be incredibly fulfilling—truly a balance of 'study hard, play hard.' BNBU offers a wide variety of clubs to join and ample holidays to relax, though the academic workload is also quite demanding, with assignments of varying scales for each course. In short, during my four years at BNBU, I learned a great deal and enjoyed myself immensely—it was essentially my ideal university experience.

I believe BNBU has broadened my international perspective and enhanced my ability to think critically. Firstly, there are many professors from Hong Kong and abroad in FBM, and even most of the local teachers have studied overseas, so the teaching incorporates a wealth of global insights and knowledge, which I found tremendously beneficial. Secondly, the professors often encourage students to think about problems from multiple angles, emphasizing that many issues have more than one solution. This approach not only taught me to think critically in my studies but also offered valuable life lessons—even after a failure, there are many paths to success."

“My four years of study at BNBU left a deep impression on me with its rich foundation in liberal arts education. The EBIS programme not only provided me with a profound understanding of both business and computer science but also taught me how to apply technological innovation to real-world business scenarios. What impressed me most was Dr. May WANG’s course, 'Electronic Customer Behavior and Web Analytics.' In this class, we not only delved into online consumer behavior but also utilized tools such as Python, SPSS, R, and Tableau for data analysis. Through case studies, we transformed theoretical knowledge into practical solutions for business problems, which was highly enlightening for me.

Moreover, my experience at BNBU cultivated my practical and research capabilities. I undertook multiple internships across various industries, including internet, software, investment banking, and management consulting, serving roles such as Data Analyst, Information Systems Specialist, and Market Analyst. These experiences not only enriched my professional skills but also laid a solid foundation for my future career. Immersed in the strong research atmosphere of BNBU’s Business School, I conducted a study on fake review detection in online platforms under the guidance of Dr. Don Junyi CHAI, and successfully published the findings at the IEEE SMC2023 international conference. This experience ignited my strong interest in research and motivated me to pursue further studies at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), where I continue to explore the fields of Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction under the guidance and collaboration of BNBU scholars such as Dr. May WANG and Dr. Don Junyi CHAI.

BNBU students demonstrate broader international perspectives and more well-rounded comprehensive abilities. The cutting-edge and diverse curriculum we encountered at BNBU enabled us to quickly adapt to international academic systems and pursue further studies and development globally with greater ease. Additionally, BNBU’s unique educational approach fostered excellent presentation skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, all of which make us more competitive and stand out in the workplace.”

"The foremost insight I gained at BNBU was the critical value of soft skills. True learning at university extends far beyond mastering textbook material; every task, including organizing activities and participating in social practices, helped shape me into a well-rounded individual. Over these four years, I have become a more independent and capable woman. Beyond scheduled classes, I utilized my spare time for work-study positions such as a library front-desk assistant, computer lab student assistant, and senior residence hall tutor. This not only allowed me to achieve financial independence but also fully honed my time management skills. Furthermore, my undergraduate major is an interdisciplinary field. All these factors made me more competitive when seeking internships and jobs. After graduation, I deliberated between offers from UCL and The University of Sydney, eventually choosing Australia for its relatively lower employment pressure. I aim to graduate successfully there and, leveraging the comprehensive qualities cultivated at BNBU, secure a fulfilling job."

"Time flies, and four years have passed in a blink. When faced again with questions from students or parents—'Can you just coast through BNBU to get a diploma?'—I want to say, 'No, studying at BNBU is challenging, fulfilling, diverse, and interesting.'

The class of 2017–2021 was the second cohort admitted to the EBIS programme. Academically, in addition to specialized knowledge, we were exposed to courses in accounting, finance, marketing, consumer behavior, and more. These courses have made us more adept in both life and professional practice. The department head and faculty also actively encouraged us to provide feedback and suggestions regarding the curriculum. The programme grew with us, and we progressed with it—together moving toward a brighter and clearer future."

"I believe BNBU's most unique competitive edge lies in its full English-medium instruction. Unlike other universities where English is taught merely as a subject, at BNBU, English is genuinely applied in both academic and daily life, becoming our second language. I believe this not only provides an advantage when taking standardized tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, or GRE but also lays a foundation for adapting quickly to an all-English teaching and living environment when studying abroad later.

At BNBU, the demanding academic workload requires strong stress management skills. Countless group projects, presentations, and similar tasks allow us to collaborate with students from different majors and working styles, while simultaneously honing our creativity, communication, and teamwork abilities. These skills will later internalize as core soft competencies in our future careers. After a summer internship, I once asked my boss why he chose a BNBU student over candidates from other institutions. He said that BNBU students demonstrate stronger overall capabilities and are better equipped for teamwork."

"Reflecting on my choice of major four years ago, I was hesitant between EBIS and Data Science. At the time, my father advised me to choose EBIS, saying that all future business would inevitably involve it. After four years of study, I find that initial choice to have been very wise—not only because of the nature of the major itself, but more importantly due to how BNBU's programme design and curriculum closely align with current trends. At BNBU, the full name of our programme is e-Business Management and Information Systems. As the name suggests, students not only learn about digital marketing but also delve into business information systems. In our senior year, we also studied courses related to big data and business analytics. Looking across the entire Faculty of Business and Administration, I believe EBIS covers the broadest range of fields. While some might see this as a drawback, in my view, it provided an opportunity to discover my interests and offered guidance for future postgraduate studies, which is why I chose to further specialize in information systems. I feel very fortunate to have joined the EBIS programme. The overall atmosphere within the major is excellent, and the bonds between classmates are very strong—it feels like being surrounded by a group of like-minded friends. Our professors not only possess rich industry experience but are also highly accomplished academically. They have provided tremendous help and advice in our studies, personal lives, and future development. I hope the EBIS programme continues to grow and thrive in the future."

Plan to obtain his master degree in the University of Hong Kong

In my opinion, the most unique competitiveness of UIC lies in its English teaching mode. Other colleges just set the English as a single course. But in UIC, English can be applied both in study and daily life, and finally it can become our second language. In my opinion, this mode not only brings advantages for taking standardized tests (such as TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT and GRE) in the future, but also provides a foundation for adapting to the English teaching mode in oversea universities in future.

In UIC, the heavy academic pressure requires students to have strong stress management ability. Countless group projects, presentations, etc., gave us opportunities to collaborate with students from different majors, and at the same time fostered our creativity, communication skills and group cooperation skills. These capabilities will be internalized as our own soft power in future work. After my summer internship, I asked my boss why he chose students from UIC rather than other universities. He said that students from UIC had stronger comprehensive quality and were more capable of teamwork.

The program director and instructors also encourage us to provide opinions or suggestions to the curriculum arrangement of the department. These courses help us grow, and we also witness their progress. We will have a brighter future together.

"UIC provides a lot of opportunities for students to present themselves. If they can catch the opportunity in time, they will get obvious progress. I think I have enhanced my language expression ability in practice, at least I am more willing to try than before. This is a change that can also be found by my parents."

In Miss Chen Xiaofeng's opinion, UIC is a place where students are encouraged to make their own voice heard. Chen is greatly touched by the encouragement from instructors and the courage and confidence of students around her. "In UIC, I met a lot of students with their own ideas. They have the ability to think independently and have a broad vision. They are not confined to the fixed mindset. What is more, I met briliant instructors who encouraged students to express their ideas, and I enjoyed the interesting clash of different ideas."

In e-Business Management and Information System program, students can learn the professional knowledge both in electronic marketing and business information system areas, and in the fourth year, the courses related to big data and business analytics are provided to the students. Curriculum design in UIC is closely connected with the trend today. This major provides me an opportunity to find my interest and a direction for my future postgraduate study, so I choose to continue my study in information system in my master degree. I feel very lucky to be admitted to the EBIS major. The atmosphere in our major is excellent, and there is a deep affection among students in EBIS. I feel surrounded by a group of like-minded friends. The instructors from EBIS not only have rich experience in the industry field, but also are very accomplished in the academic area. They provide us a lot of help and suggestions in study, life and future development.
