The Environmental Science

Environmental science students will learn how nature works, how people are connected to the environment, as well as how to prevent environmental degradation and restore damaged environment. BNBU is located in Zhuhai, a vibrant city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The GBA is well known for its highly developed urban clusters and diverse natural habitats. In an ecologically rich city like Zhuhai, there are many natural habitats such as the Chinese White Dolphin National Nature Reserve, the Provincial Mangrove Nature Reserve, natural wetlands and wetland parks. Zhuhai also has a long coastline and numerous near-shore islands. All these natural ecosystems, together with well-managed green spaces in the city, provide an excellent learning environment for environmental science students.

The Environmental Science Programme of UIC provides its students access multiple specialized and sophisticated laboratories including the Advanced Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, the Environmental Technology Laboratory, the Environmental Science Research Laboratory, the Chemistry Laboratory, the Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory, the Microorganism Incubation and Fermentation Laboratory, the Aquaculture Laboratory and the Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory. These laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments particularly Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICP), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV-Vis Spectrophotometers and high-tech air quality testing equipment. A number of specific equipment for biological and ecological studies are also available, for instance, an array of sampling tools, telescope and binoculars, various types of microscope, electrophoresis apparatus, laminar flow hoods, incubators, and microtome.

The four-year undergraduate program allows students to gain valuable practical experience, as well as research experience through completion a final year project under the guidance of experienced professors.
